Thanks gents! I wanted to tag this build in my new Airfix Mustang thread and was disappointed to see the photos had been replaced with a Photobucket "nuh uh" message, so I replaced the image links with Flickr. I have fond memories of this project - very satisfying!

I have the Red Roo conversion set somewhere in the stash - haven't used it yet, but it looks very good and crisp, should work well together with a P-51D donor kit.
Unless I'm mistaken (and have missed big news) the Red Roo set is for a RR Dart-powered conversion rather than the Piper Enforcer? Still a very neat set and one I'd like to try one day, but it doesn't have the life-long draw for me the Enforcer does.

The Red Roo kit is for the one and only Dartstang.
The Dartstang was originally an Australian built CA-18 Mustang.  It was re-engined with a Dart from a Viscount but never actually flew under turboprop power..
It ended up reverting to Merlin power, in the US, rebuilt as a P-51D.
The Red Roo kit uses the Academy P-51D.

I built one here.

I remember driving past the Dartstang when it was based in Canberra.  It just sat on the flight line amongst all the light aviation and looked rather lonely with it's long nose, poking out the front.  It was apparently owned by a airline pilot who decided to convert but then lost heart and never flew her.

Poor old VH-UFO. I'd love to have seen and heard her fly!

Love it when old threads and ideas pop up like this. Love the Mustang, in all of it's guises. This time, I'm saving the ideas lol. Then, instead of forgetting completely, I can look at the pretty pictures, and wonder why I saved them.

I have  been considering doing mine as a  turbo prop also  but as an alternative to the westland wyvern, and doing it in 1950's royal navy  colours.

Great idea Chris! I'd very much like to see that.

Funnily enough, that's what I did when I first came here - save photos, forget, two-three years later see them and wonder why!
