I  like the tradewind, I  was very  tempted  with a 1/72nd scale one  a while back

I've got one of the Combat Models kits Chris --- I bought the detail package that you can buy too. When I got it I had a look at the contra props and then asked the owner of CM if I could buy additional sets of them. And I could so bought a couple of them. Got a cunning plan for them -----   ;D
Those  contra props would be  very  useful  Robert, I  didn't  bother with one as I have nowhere safe to  display or store one when  built

Didn't the Tradewind have the same troublesome turbo-props that Douglas used on the C-133?

No Kit, Tradewind has Allison T40's, the C-133 has P&W T34's

OK, neither were particularly reliable as I recall though. But then not that many turbo-props were back then, apart from the RR Dart.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

They're very big diameter props too, I happen to have a pair on hand, they measure out at 15'-6" diameter, or 66mm in 1/72

Agreed, but then they weren't too ambitious with the power output either --

The T40 was really just a couple of T38s joined at the hip, as it were, and rather unwillingly if the performance and reliability is to be believed. The T38 eventually evolved into the very reliable T56, as used on the C-130.

Don't think I've ever made my own props, looks rather daunting. But I'll have a go for something I have planned...

It was more work than I thought, and didn't turn out as good as I'd imagined, but fun none the less ! I still want to add wing tanks/ refueling pods to her. And a few stencilsand walkways etc.
