Canberra interceptor wiff

I have a spare box scale Revell B-57 fuselage which this is inspiring me to do something with.

I don't want to do anything with the PR9 Robert to be honest I don't want to lose it as a future build, so it is safe. I am going to use the Airfix B-57 virtually out of the box, unless I have something I can graft on to replace the engine fronts to make them bigger. It could change again before it happens so we shall see.

IIRC the engines on the B-57 are a tad larger than the Brit supplied Avons. They're J-65s, which were US built versions of the A-S Sapphire, so they're really Brit engines anyway.

I just checked, they are larger, but only by 2"................

This is all ringing bells as I was building a Canberra F10 for the Cold War GB this time last year, but I abandoned it due to running out of time. I still have it in the 'Projects Area' and I fitted larger fan engines to that, see pic below. I used some 1/144 scale CF6 front ends from my airliner engine collection and I know I've LOTS more front ends like that id you'd like a pair?

Yes please Kit, I would like to give a pair of those a try of they are an easy transplant they will make the build that bit more appealing. Cheers

This project has just got some more bits to make it a reality thanks to Kit

. Biggest and probably the trickiest job will be installing the bigger fan fronts, so I will have to have a good coat of looking at that predicament first I think.

Good stuff. I really like this idea ! I have a few of those 144 scale kits with the extra bits and had never thought of that.

The fan fronts I used on this project were 1/200 IIRC

That's a marvellous whiff Canberra that Robert, I really like it. The fan fronts Kit sent me are way too big for the Airfix B-57, they are 6-7 mm yoo wide? So either a complete engine tube rebuild or smaller fan fronts to be found. The ones kit gave me certainly won't go to waste that's for sure

Why not say they're low bypass fans and do something like an RF-57F

I will look into that too Robert, ideally yhe plane will need lots of power for outright speed with it being an interceptor. Also given the time frame I want it in service would limit what turbo fan engines were available. Hmm, talk about digging myself a hole

I had a nosey at one of the Testors/ italeri B-57 kits I have to see if either of those would be easier to modify the wings and engines onbut they are virtually identical in how they are put together. Also, I found an issue of scale aircraft modelling from 1989 I think it was and on the front cover was the Martin B-57. I should dig it back out really and have a read. I think I bought the kit from a member of this forum too, and quite a long time ago too.
