I dunno what happened to this build, it just sort of petered out. 

I just found it while looking for the missiles for my Canberra F10, and it's still in the state pic'd above. Needless to say I can't find the canopy bits yet, but it's a good candidate for finishing off.

So much for getting paint on the Blanik today. 

I've got all the main parts assembled now, minus the cockpit and canopy of course, but the port wing was a TOTAL pain. Special Hobby's 'no locating pins' moulding system falls apart when you're dealing with long wings, and the Blanik's surely are long! The inner surface of the wing is curved to match the fuselage, and the first wing can be glued quite sensibly by turning the fuselage so the wing is vertical while it dries, but you can't do that with the second one as the first wing is in the way.

I found two ways to deal with that:

1. place two identical cardboard boxes on a table, with a gap between them just wide enough to fit the wing.
Place the model, with the fuselage resting on one of the boxes, and the first wing hanging in between the boxes. Adjust the model's angle to suit, and fix the angle (using blue-tac, shims under the tailplane, clamps etc.).
This gives a reasonable platform to work on attaching the second wing.
I also do this for fuselage decals on airliners etc.

2. the same idea, but using Lego as scaffolding.

That's a similar idea to that which JayBee used on his  tiny 1/144 Blanik build.

I was just up the road in East Boldon. Haven't been to Newton since I retired. British Steel used to have a works there. Narrow Strip I think ?

I used to attach the wings to the fuselage halves, like this:



Then I'd glue the fuselage halves together, supporting the wing tips as necessary.

I don't say it's the best way, but it worked for me.

That was the general idea. It'd have looked even better if I'd have finished it! 

Never mind, it's back on the 'Build Me' pile now.

I'd have to find space for a camera then, and Blaniks aren't exactly roomy inside...............
