1/72 Westland Wasp

QuoteBaxMod is happy to announce the release of the Wasp helicopter 1/72 scale.

The Westland Wasp was developed specifically for naval ship-based operations and entered service with the British Royal Navy in 1964.

The Wasp could be used for anti-submarine warfare carrying either a torpedo or depth-charges. The Wasp was South Africa's first naval helicopter and entered service in 1963 and was retired by 1990 after 27 years of service.

The retail price of the model is R600 + postage if required.

There is some interesting stuff on their website.  I'd like more pics of actual models if I was to order anything though.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

That Wasp is £29.00 approx. in Sterling.

It's small but I bet they sell a few over here. It certainly came in from left field, South Africa's not a place you tend to look at for model kits.

And I note they make a Buffel, a bizarre looking machine that I installed a hefty test rig for many years ago.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

You used to see Buffels a lot on the TV news reports back in the day.

Anyone considering ordering anything from South Africa should bear in mind that their postal service is unbelievably slow.

A resin Wasp in 1/72 could be an interesting test of both dexterity, temper and patience

Yes, but S&M are doing an injection kit of it too ---

Yea I saw that, but even that would be a test of my dexterity that I'd probably fail.

I do sometimes wonder what the brand name S&M really means ?  ;) He's such a dapper guy at UK shows as well. Always suited and booted and always up for a chat. Nice bloke

I believe it is the first letter in his and his partners names. I seem to remember that coming up in another thread.

IIRC, I've got an Aeroclub conversion for a Wasp, I just need to find where I put it.

I've got a C Scale white metal conversion, and very nice it is too, but I've also got my own Wasp conversion done using the late Alan Hall's method as explained in Airfix Mag a zillion years ago.

Except I didn't buy four Jet Provosts and four Hudsons just to get the landing gear bits!  :o
