That's not what I was expecting it to look like at all. Great stuff sir

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Thanks Chris.

What were you expecting?

I wasn't expecting that colour scheme to start with, but the real game changer for me is the canopy. It just somehow makes it look so much more modern ? It could almost be an 80's design for a stunt/aerobatic aircraft, especially with a different cowling set up. It just doesn't look 30's with that canopy.

Canopy does change the look.  But as it's from a Mk1 Spit it is period.  It was a late change as I dropped and lost the standard windscreen right at the end of the build.
Cowling is standard I-15bis.  Straight out of the box.  I just painted it with metaliser is all.  There's a nicely detailed Shvetsov M25V under there.  I even rusted the exhaust.  And then glued the cowlings on, covering it all up.

Glad you like it Brad F.

Ah interesting. I'd not realised it was a Spitfire canopy. I knew you'd kept the cowling. What I meant was a slightly more modern looking one, say similar to a Lavochkin one, and it would look like a modern aerobatic aircraft.

Ah, yes.  I see what you mean about the cowling now.

That's a good one - the colour scheme is especially nice.

The whole Polikarpov range looks good for carrier use.

They do don't they. I'd never thought about it before until I saw this build.

Time to have a rummage through those old A Model kits I have in the stash ? Better have a stiff drink first though  ;)

ICM also do I-16's, gull wing I-15's, I-153's, and I-1's ( IL-400's) in 1/72.
I've built an ICM I-16 as well as this one and both are fiddly (particularly the interiors) but go together well with some perseverance.

Belated congratulations!
(The notify tool did not warn me, but I saw the completed status in the "Finished Builds" page)
I love this I-15 with a canopy, so much better than without.

SMER do/did I-16s and I-153 (maybe others too).
