In keeping with  several other companies  competing  for the F.155t requirement  English Electric  as a side project  designed and built  a mixed propulsion  interceptor.  4 prototypes were ordered by the air ministry. With only minor  problems  with the stability of the  aircraft  in high speed runs which  was eventually ironed out, the aircraft  saw  great  promise  only to be  cancelled  in favour of the aircraft  which was to become  the Lightning.  The aircraft  was capable of  mach 2.5 using mixed propulsion  but the range was severely  depleted,  so the addition of  jettisonable fuel tanks  were trialled and deemed useable in  combat. The  kit is the  special hobby  Douglas  skyrocket  in 1/72nd scale.  This kit was plucked from the  next for sale pile, and I am  glad I did as I  only wanted to  throw it in the bin twice, which is good. I can't think of a  suitable name for this  thing  so some  ideas would be brilliant cheers.

May I point out that English Electric built the Lightning and you have said this aircraft was designed and built by the same company to the same specification. I take it that you got a little mixed up so how about Armstrong Witworth as the company?

Also I  was starting to  feel the  effects of my pain killers  and was feeling  pretty out of it. I should have left posting this until today.  These tablets give me 10 hours sleep  whether I want it or not.  ;D

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Thats the one  Alastair, it will share shelf space with  my sr.53  and  my Avro 720 when I have  built it. It also got plonked in the  corner of  uncertainty  with the FD-2  as it became problematic with bad fitting parts  and the red decided that it wanted to  be like artex in texture, I  think it could have had a disagreement with the  underlying alclad dull aluminium.

Great!
Big rocket planes are rare, even inside the what-if world, thanks to enrich the subject!
For a name, I have not much idea as English is not my mother language, but maybe this could feature the rocket side, like "Rocky" or "Rocky Dart" ?
[the word "realistic" hurts my heart...]

Hmm? Not so sure about those names Tophe, but Dart could very well be involved in its Christening
