Just a final update on this project...

I got all the last bit of fiddly painting done and decided to do one last safety check on the engines before I tackled the decals and then mounting it on the base. I was really tempted to add a string and see if Dizzy's idea would work... but the chances of that ending in disaster were too high for me. You do get quite a breeze when all four props are spinning though, so it's tempting. 



And there we go, effectively done (minus the radio antenna wire).  I still have a bit of fiddling with the base to do, but the hard part is over.



I have to say, I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out. I had a bit of a nervy moment glueing the props onto the shafts... just a bit too much CA glue and the motor will never spin again.  I did end up misaligning the last prop and it wouldn't spin, but a quick tear-off and second attempt did the trick luckily.

I also came to the conclusion during this build that I didn't need to be a slave to the Voir et Savoir chromolithographs that this project is based on.  Trying to match all the unit markings would probably kill me, so we're going to go with "close enough is good enough".  Case in point, the picture shows a yellow "5" on the nose, but the kit markings included a yellow "S" - I'll take it.

Two cutting mats Chris.
One for working on and one for photos.  No one could possibly build that well AND keep their mat so clean and tidy.

I used to do that, now they're both covered in crap.

I have one clean one I keep for transfers, but that's A5 whereas my main work mat is A3. Mind you I could do with a new one.

Truth be told, I just got a new cutting mat on the weekend, it won't stay that clean for long I suspect.
