And very possible to do, even for a non-expert like me. I plan to buy some of those styrene sheets, could you just tell us the appropriate width? As thin as possible? 0.5 millimeter?

I usually use .040 of an inch (1mm) Evergreen sheet styrene, then I cut it to fit.  I used 2 pieces of 1mm styrene  bonded together to make the tail.  I got 2sheets of .040 for the same price as 1 sheet of .080, doesn't make much sense.
