Well, I had rather wondered why Australia would need an amphibian recce tank?

First, it isn't a "tank" but an armoured car - important to the tankies out there.

Second, who said we weren't planning to sail to Indonesia and strike them from the beaches?

Always thought the Luchs was too big for the European recce role, but it actually makes a lot of sense in the Australian context. Plenty of range, livable in, and a pretty good amphibious capability if you want to go "elsewhere".
