Fact during WWII sections of the Mulberry floating harbour were used to build a runway and trials took place in Scotland using a Royal Navy Gloucester Swordfish aircraft. The runway was just over six feet wide but I haven't been able to find the correct details of how long it was.
They named it Lilly and they also built one out of wood called Clover.
The Swordfish had RATO packs to assist on take off from the short runway and could operate in waves of upto 30 feet.
The idea was to carry Lilly on a frigate and construct the runway as a temporary solution until a airfield or aircraft carrier was available.
Unfortunately Lilly wasn't used and Clover rotted away.
Apparently 'The Grand Tour ' are using something very similar to create a bridge to drive across in their American cars.
Scaled down it looks like matchboxes glued together to form a runway,  arrestor wires at one end and a portable 'ski slope ' at the other. A water scene will be added and I'm thinking of using a 1/72 Jaguar M would be appropriate or a V/STOL aircraft,  anything heavier and it's going to dip below the surface.
