Thinking tanks

Fortunately, I have access to an interpreter who can convert tankspeak into English.  Rheged minor (he's the one whose Masters thesis was on UK tank procurement and doctrine between the end of the 2nd world war and the fall of the Berlin Wall) understands these things, and commends the Haynes manuals  on the Churchill, Centurion, Challenger 1  and 2 to all Whiffers as a good source of information; a launch pad  from which soaring imaginations may take off.

Is this available to view online at all. As ex-infantry I'm getting a bit of a pasting from a chavalryman who may be a friend. I'd like some ammunition and inspiration for things that might have been. The recent government report has been pretty dismal reading although the Hansard minutes suggest Yes, (Defence Procurement) Minister could be an interesting watch. I assume you have to refer to him as Dr Rheged minor nowadays.

Regrettably, Rheged minor has not (yet) achieved a PhD  and remains the other Mr Rheged **  However, if there's anyone out there with more cash than sense prepared to fund three years (or more) study, he says  he does have a research proposal that might lead in due course to a doctorate...............................

   Listening to him conversing  in  tankspeak to  a National Trust conservation staff member we both know  is a confusing experience;  the chap was Tank Regiment Berlin Brigade for a while. Said conservator reckons that he and his colleagues were stationed in Berlin mainly to  demolish Spandau prison once Rudolph Hess died.


**As an aside, Rheged minor looks much younger than his actual age, and when doing volunteer guide work for the National Trust  is often asked by elderly ladies  "Are you going to the university this autumn?"   His answer "Only if I can arrange funding for my PhD"  confuses them  cosiderably.

My former Army Guard shop NCO was Berlin Brigade (US Army) in the late 70s, very early 80s.  And also discussed Herr Hess and Spandau with me, as well as being on the flightline waiting on C-130s to go jump into Tehran during Operation Eagle Claw

Hah! He must have been there when I lived there in 1978! For a while I lived in an Apartment Hotel which was directly opposite the main gates to the US Army's Barracks (Anderson Barracks or something like that?)

When they changed the watch at Checkpoint Charlie at 6 am in the morning the sound of a few M60 tanks rumbling out of the gates made a good alarm clock!

Tracked Rapier trundling onto a hardstanding not far from my room after deplaning from a C-130 at Benbeculia International Airport was not conducive to sleep after a night shift either, though going into the Airport terminal and getting a bacon roll or two usually made up for that.

Currently running at around 6 months per day..................

The KMD-11 STILL isn't done as I can't for the life of me get the Corrogard panel decals to stay on properly.

I may have to print up some replacements.

Have ya tryed micro sol on those decals..works pretty good on irregular surfaces.
Ive used it on zimmerit for the crosses and it turned out a treat.
Oh also use micro set to hold the bugger down.

Yes, I've used EVERYTHING on them, but they're Eastern Express decals, which says it all really............

Luckily I make a habit of scanning every decal sheet I use these days, so with luck I can print some copies, and I know the decal paper I'm using DOES stick down.

Ohhhhhh ..either you forgot to mention that or you do and i completely missed it (more likely) but yep i fully understand your problem.
They are crap..best thing is what your doing.
Best thing for eastern express decals is roll em into a ball and if ya have a cat give it to them to play with

I had a look at thr thread and its very cool..tripple engined plane is a sweet idea..
I have a converison in mind for one of my planes ..32nd German HE219 night fighter..will need another one of those or two
