What if the West German Do-31 VTOL transport entered service as a light utility transport for NATO nations and the USAF? CV-31 maybe? I'll make a sketch of one later.

I always thought that they missed a trick by not using another pair of Pegasus engines near the wing ends instead of all those lift engines.

Here's a USAF one, markings are a combination of Caribou and night ops Hercules.

I'm contemplating trying to write a  backstory for modellers use on the AW 681 in squadron service.    I might well include to Do-31 if I can make it work. Anyone up for AW681/Do-31 in styrene?

The styrene 31 definetely! It's always been one of my favourite VTOL projects.

One or two people on here have done AW681's, not sure who though, Thorvic springs to mind though. Main stream manufacturers won't touch them though as they are too neich though.

S&M Models did the AW.681 in 1/144, Thorvic did a 1/72 scratchbuild.

Many moons ago, 2006, J.P. Santiago aka Sentinel Chicken did some profiles of in service production Do-31s.
Note that the HV-31B variant has four Pegasus.

Maybe if you can get Chicken to okay it, these can be the schemes for this proposed Do-31 styrene kit.

I just checked Scalemates and there are three kits in 1/72, only one that apears to be readily available is the one by Planet Models but it's going for a little over £70

I still have a 1/144 Do-31 from Anigrand lying around. This all is giving me ideas to start it  ;D
