The Wooksta!

AKA the single engined Lightning.

Short story - fuselage done by Geoff (Thorvic) many years ago with the intention for me to finish it, mould and cast.  For various reasons, it didn't happen and was forgotten.  Cue working on the P8 in several forms, I dug it out to see how much it would need to finish it.

Anyway, it's being revived, and this is it's thread.

Obligatory taped up shot.

The wings are from one of the Lightnings I'd butchered for current builds, everything else coming from the spares box.

I'll be posting more photos tomorrow.

The Wooksta!

Not done much, but the cockpit is in, so a coat of paint and we can get her closed up.

Relocated nosewheel bay.  Used a Revell Me 262 one as I had several spare.

Shot of the cockpit in situ.  Note the horrendous latice of scrap plastic holding it and the noseweight in place.

Another shot, revealing that it's from a Revell Hunter.  Look, I know it's not a Lightning one - the resin one I had didn't fit - but this isn't a Lightning per se, and once it's painted black with the lid down, who's to tell?  Anyway, MFM!

The Wooksta!

It really just needs the pitot tube - I have some sewing needles - but it's already been on display at Telford, so it's just about done.

Very happy with the finish on this, taking a lot longer than I thought it would as aluminium paint is *VERY* unforgiving of flaws.

I've gone for a late example, with the square fin and small belly tank, in an Aluminium finish but with 1970s Tactical roundels* and wearing the "Scottish Air Force" markings worn by the last Lightning to leave Leuchars in the 1970s.

*There are a few photos of 19 Sqn Lightning F2As in Aluminium finish and wearing Tactical roundels, in between repaints in the 1970s.

Nicely done.

Take off the RAF roundels and it would look like a MiG Ye prototype
Whatever.

Very elegant, and I agree with the MiG prototype idea/impession.

The Wooksta!

The basis is an Su 7 fuselage, there's one kit that doesn't have the area rule at the back. Ironically, there was a variant drawn up with an Olympus engine that did have the area rule and that is next in the queue at some point.

But yes, it does have a MiG on steroids look about it. I briefly toyed with Soviet markings for a starring role in a Bond film but rejected it as I wanted to do RAF. The Man with the Golden Gun used a Hunter cockpit section as a stand in for a Chinese fighter, so it would have some plausibility.
