I memory of the man himself I thought this pic of him would be worth re-posting. That grin will stick with me for ever.

Note the tag on the nosewheel door, how apt a warning, eh?  ;D

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

The last time I saw mike clamber up a Hunter crew ladder was at Sywell back in 2019 there was a cockpit section sitting on a trailor. The owner invited mike to have a look and see if he was still able to get in......He wasnt. he was more than happy to just look in while perched half way up the ladder and regale everone present of his time on Hunters. I thought I had a photo of said occasion, but im damnd if I can find it..............

I'm very sad to hear of Mike's passing.  I talked to him a few times at several shows and like others said, a true gentleman.  It always amused me that he named his website Grumpy Old Modeller, I've never met a less grumpy guy.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

My modeling family across the pond has my deepest condolences on their loss, on what sounds like a great man. I second a memorial group build here at the site, as I have several Hunters that need built.

Now THAT rang a bell! How discouraging  :-\
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

That is really sad - as many have said, a true (not at all grumpy) gentleman whose writings have given so much pleasure to modellers for years. RIP, Mike.

Just a thought:

Whatever IPMS do or don't do about memorial awards at Telford, we could add a Mike McEvoy award to the Whiffies on here, the award being made to the best whif involving a Hunter. We'd have to have a think about what to do in the event of there being no Hunter whiffs in the year, although that seems rather unlikely.

I'd suggest British projects? That was Mike's favourite modelling theme.

Ok gang, Hold all thoughts ref any awards/thropies in Mikes name.

Ive been in conversation with Mike's son.
He has informed me that the family are in the process of putting together ideas of their own for a Mike McEvoy memorial throphy. Rather than duplicate effort or steal the families thunder I am minded to say that we should assist the family as they progess with there ideas.

The funeral is unlikely to be held before the new year. And the family are expecting covid restrictions to be in force, this will limit the number attending, so they are looking into live streaming the services once a date is set for those unable to attend.

I always hope for the best.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I have been copied in on a round-robin email from Mikes son. The funeral will be on the 6th January at 11am.

As expected the service will be streamed for those unable to attend in person.
I've already PM'ed the details to most of those here who knew Mike well. They know who they are.
IF I've missed any one off who wishes to take part virtually, just PM me and I will forward the details of where to find the stream and the login code
I always hope for the best.
