British AEW projects: Nimrod and Britannia

What if the RAF had used a different interim AEW aircraft while the Nimrod was being developed?

One option would have been the Bristol Britannia BEWARE:

As pictured in Chris Gibson's books 'The Air Staff and AEW' and 'Battle Flight'. I followed the drawing, with one exception: after Chris mentioned the limitations of Britannia's electrical system, I added a large APU under the left wing root.

By ~1965, BOAC was getting rid of its Britannias. The RAF could have used a dozen or so, with a Marconi radar that was a step up from the AN/APS-20. That would have taken the pressure off of the Nimrod development; with a few more years of advances in computers, the FASS might have been made to work better.

Hawker Siddeley Nimrod AEW.3:

The Britannia is the Roden 1:144 kit, with a scratchbuilt radome (see https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=47934).

The Nimrod is a clone of the Anigrand kit (Thorvic found this on eBay), with new radomes (3D printed to my own drawings, see https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=42559)

Well up to your usual classy style Harro. MOST impressive.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Excellent work there as usual Harro!

I like the clean simple lines of your models.

If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .
