A Two Seat Typhoon

No more pictures yet as the bench is back to being so untidy it would be a modelling equivelant of Where Wally!
Almost ready to button up Meteor number one, some small amount of PSR to be done and I am haveing to fettle the wing fuselage joint so it fits. Number two has the wings together, PSR stats on that later today and more lead is being added to the fuselages so that they are definatly nose heavy. Just thinking about the undercarriage and I may pin them at the start because to joints between the legs and the aircraft is almost nothing more than a butt joint which does not fill me with confidence.
The typhoon is comming along nicely though painting the seats is a bit of a PITA.
I am wondering why when I thought of this plan I didn't go for something a little easier to build, something produced in better molds that the Meteors as almost every single joint needs putty to some degree or other.

So Friday is here and not much further with any of the three. Sounds as if I was ambitious and I probably have been. I should have just gone for the Typhoon as its the most complete of the three and yet I have spent the least amount of time on it.
Oh well, best keep plodding on with them even though Wednesday was mostly a write off due to the dentist and I now have to go to the Doctors today so that's roughly half the day gone as well. 
I do have another week off work though so if nothing else I shall attempt to finish them by the time I go back.

Decided to concentrate on the Typhoon in the hope of finishing that within the time frome so I have started a thread for the Meteors in the Aircraft section of the forum and will continue them there while keeping this thread for the Typhoon.

Well this one isn't going to get past the finishing line either for the group build, or is extremely unlikely to do so 
More puttying has been needed so that will take time to sort as well then priming the aircraft and probably at least two coats of paint and then decalling. If I had given the Typhoon all my attention at the start of the week then no problem despite two days with almost nothing done due to real life getting in the way 
I have made a modification to the kit though. At the base of the tail fin there is an air intake, just like on the Tornado and probably for a heat exchanger, just like on the Tornado, that's the Panavia Tornado and not the Hawker Tornado or anyone else's. Anyway, the external shape was correct but the interior of the intake was represented by a circular hole, o rather than 0, so out with the mini drill and a very small bit and a much better shaped hole was produced. Some filling has also been done along the joint between the base of the fin and the fuselage spine. I tried out the Mr Hobby Mr White Putty R which I received yesterday and it proved to be just what was needed for this job. It's like the normal putty, but thin. More like a knifeing puttythan usual which suits me just fine as it works well for seams and small areas or small indents', very happy with the product. An aditional ident for the product is that the backgroud for the Mr Hobby logo is red rather than the blue of the usual product I buy.

Decided to mask the canopy with Maskoll only to find there was something growing in it so that's now in the bin and the build stalled due to that. Yes I could just use tape to cover the parts of the canopy that I want to keep clear, but I can also have my knife slip and scratch the canopy so I wanted to use Maskoll.
Could some kind moderator please move this to the Aircraft folder please as I am not going to get this finished in time!

I have a new bottle on order, should arrive Tuesday. Had the old one for probably twenty five or so years, rectangular bottle which I thought would last me forever. I just never used it so it would have untill I decided to open it today.

So with a new supply of Maskol arriving today I had a go at adding the stuff to the canopy. Now I know why I didn't open the bottle for over twenty years. I think some masking tape and a new shap knife blade and a cocktail stick will come into play along with some Tamyia masking tape as it just wants to contrack and pool where I don't want it

I had another look at what the Maskol was doing. I may change my mind about it and continue using it.



And this is the first picture of this build too 

The main canopy was the first part I coated in Maskol, the windscreen had been coated shortly before I took the picture and looks like I expected it to look like. The main canopy has become translucent which is not what I was expecting but it is still covering the canopy, or at least where it was put.

Ive used maskol in the past and yep i hate problems with it retracking from the edges ..so id tape of the edges and paint maskol over them..let it dry and cut the edge and peel off the tape ..sweet
Yesterday i had completely forgot i had a bottle of Ammo ultra liquid mask when i was covering the canopy for the python ..i used my old way of using old model master self adhesive metal foil which works brilliantly.

Primer has been added over the whole model so I will find out later today how well the Maskol did and I will see how well the Halfords Grey Primer matches one of the two Greys the aircraft was going to be painted, might save me some work there. Now to think about Stores.....

Not only has a coat of primer been added to the model, some of the first coat of paint has been added 



A couple of small areas needed some more filler applied but that's it 

The colour of the primer is fairly close, it may work if I was doing a German machine as their colours are a bit darker.



Over view of the aircraft so far. Armament has been decided, Two fuel tanks and a couple of short range air-to-air missiles, IRS-T, along with a pair of AIM-120's. I don't have markings for a RTAF so it's not going to be a Thai Phoon 
I think I will stick to my idea of a Ukrainian aircraft although Finnish would be interesting as well.
