Hawker P.1030

I  was having a  look at the contraband  that is Unicraft  models.  There is some  really nice stuff there but I  will not risk spending money on  something that  could  very easily  end up in  the bin. One  kit that caught my eye  as a possible  fleet air arm  bird was the  Hawker P.1030 . I  can see a lot of sea fury in this  aircraft  all be it a slimmed down version.   Was wondering if anyone here has made one of these using a  sea fury  and perhaps  a Tempest  as parts donors.  Would it be a difficult  project  to create or reasonably  easy.

I recall making the 'display style' model shown in Tony's, British Secret Projects, Fighters & Bombers 1939-45 ... I used a PM. Sea Fury as a basis as this gave me a accurate and chunky frame to work from. The wing radiators were from styrene sheet mounted into a cut back wing to give depth. The nose was based upon a resin SpotOn conversion moulding I had to hand for the Eagle engined P.1027 with Milliput to blend and shape to match the Fury fuselage contours. The propellor I think was modified from an old Wyvern one.

That's how I eventually plan to tackle the P1030, but have wondered whether using a Special Hobby Sea Fury might be better (certainly a better canopy!).

EDIT: I've some resin leading edge radiators to hand, also the Jays Models Tempest I conversion set that will either become a real world build or be sold on.  We'll see.

Considering the shape you could just cut away the leading edges and make up your own radiators using the lengths of leading edge as the tops and bottoms of them. Should not be too difficult.

Some time ago I bought a bunch of those Tempest Mk.I conversions, a couple of them they've become available now.



I used one set of radiators and cowling for this project. This is Fury LA610 with Sabre VII.
