Don't think that port city has had its name applied to a flying boat so far, so it's about bloody time!

Here's some in-progress pics.

This is that hull that's caused me a few ulcers

Head on shot, at least I've managed to keep the keel fairly straight so far

Propped the wings up with Lego, already mounted the engines on top, right over where they would normally be on the bottom

Not very clear but you can get a sense of how small the wing floats are, and yet they will still look a little oversize for the plane. The tops are some sort of teardrop thingies that weren't used on a Hobbycraft Sabre, balsa attached with Tamiya putty, which actually melted the plastic enough to cause dimpling on the outside! One is almost shaped, other is untouched

Poor courageous modeller... :(  I will donate medicines, this great flying boat   needs so much to be born, someday...
[the word "realistic" hurts my heart...]

Thanks Tophe. I was seriously thinking of doing it in Aeronavale markings (they did use the Sunderland that this is replacing a decade after its retirement), but they would be even more difficult in 1/220th scale than RAF!

Thanks. I don't mean to sound depressing, but if you saw her 'in the flesh' you would realize what I mean about it being a bugger to get right. Using a flash close-up with the white paint doesn't show how rough it still is. I have entertained serious thoughts of making it a waterline job, but that's an absolute last resort. But when I think of what it will take to modify the kit's landing gear into beaching gear it sure is tempting!

Now what we really need for that is a model of a Dash 7. When I worked at YTZ I mentioned to a nearby float pilot, as Capital Airways was taxiing theirs out, that if I ever won a crapload in a lottery I would buy a Dash 7 and put a hull on it. The look on his face was just like he'd had sex.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I'm impressed!

You also mentioned a seafaring Dash-7,  what about using the HC Dash-8 model?
Not the greatest model but a good starting point, even if it has two engines instead of four.

Ah, geez, now you got me thinking....

I'd still like to turn my Matchbox Privateer into a seaplane.  Who was it here who posted that B-24 seaplane dwg way back when????   I'll have to do a site search.

Ah, it was Steve (Aircav) but I believe all the images are now reduced to those nasty little red "X's" which I hate nearly as much as Swastikas!

Thanks Barry! Yeah, I've often considered a Dash-8 flying boat too, but that Dash-7 is definitely a better looking machine to do it with. Those four engines just yell POWER! And with that extra power it could easily take the extra weight of the gear needed to make it an amphib.
