So I'm trying to strip paint using Dettol, and it works, But...

I'm left with an extemely thick sticky residue covering the whole model, my hands, the toothbrush I was scrubbing with, and vigorous washing with dish soap doesn't seem to have much success in removing it. Right now the model has been soaking for a day in a strong dish soap solution, haven't opened it yet to check on progress.

Is this normal?

Not in my experience, but I've only done it with Dettol once. All the paint just fell off into the bottom of the container when I tried it.

Okay, might depend on the type of paint being stripped.

There's a name from the past, the Canadian distributor of it lived just a few houses from us in the 60's. Not sure if it's still avalable here, a web search seems confusingly incoherent. There seem to be similar products, might pick one up.
