That will look very good, hell the Hunter looks good in any scheme.
If there was the bigger order there may have been a second batch which were FGA-9's, not just the Mk-6's.
Not sure which scheme I will do but I am drawn to the anti-radiation green I must admit.

Yep, i'm going for the FGA.9, mine will be exactly like the Swiss ones, with the same "Hunter 80" program upgrades they had in their later years, like the sabrinas with the chaff/flares dispensers.
I agree, the Hunter is a beautiful plane and i'm sure it'll also look good in the Anti-radiation green.

Yup, that's it. 
The PoAF's G-91, T-6, Alouette III, and the Puma choppers were also painted with this paint during some time of the conflict. I guess it was when the soviet "Strella" missiles were being used against Portuguese aircraft..

I also have a picture of a Gina in the Green/Grey scheme with only the flag on the fin as a marking. Also a TA-7 in USN grey over white scheme - I believe this was a loan aircraft.

Yup, the "White dove", as it was called by the PoAF's personnel, was a TA-7C, loaned till we got the TA-7P.

In the early 70's I was living in Portugal and I remember being stunned by two camouflaged jets flying very very low above the school yard (heading north-east). It's only a vague memory now but I am pretty sure they were Lockheed F-104 Starfighters.

Does anyone know if PoAF had considered acquiring F-104G like other NATO members have?

I am not aware of Portugal ever considering the F-104 - although I always thought it would have been a good idea. I suspect cost being a factor as they were getting pretty broke financially with 3 wars on the go at that time.

There is a firing range at Alcochete east of Lisbon that was used by the German Luftwaffe from 1970. So if you were near Lisbon that might account for it?

I was living near the spanish border but according to their course your explanation is very plausible!
After departing from the east of Lisbon (Alcochete or Montijo), they probably flew north-east over the Tagus Valley to reach the border.

Just found out that Portugal was slated for the F-5E/F after the war which is why they had loan T-38s for lead in training, which ended up donated to them. I believe financial considerations scuppered the deal - shame really.

Yep, the PoAF wanted the F-5E/F and also the F-4E but it was too much for the money they had available and they had to settle with the A-7P option which was refurbished and modernized to A-7E standards, as a more suitable platform for the anti-shipping role Portugal was asked to perform in the NATO strategy of the cold war. I've built the Revell 1/72 F-4F and the Monogram 1/48 F-5F from the list of aircraft they wanted back then and there are a bunch of kits in my stash just to complete that list, including helicopters.

Sorry, only saw this now. They wanted the F-4E and that's why i've been seriously considering the new Meng 1/48 kit, looks really good and it just needs a couple of crew figures.
Anyway, I've built the F-4F and have a Hasegawa 1/72 F-4B/N and also an F-4S for the big nose variants, of which, one will be PoAF and the other will be Portuguese Naval Aviation... or even Marines.
