They are required to comply with the Rules of the Air, specifically the Visual Flight Rules and the in-flight visibility/distance from cloud/distance from obstacle requirements applicable to the classification of airspace within which the formations would have flown through.

Think of the flypast in several stages: join-ups of the various elements in the assigned holds, transit to flypast from said holds (different speeds and altitudes according to aircraft type and where the holds are), the flypast and finally departure from the London Control Zone and the London TMA.  In each the weather has to be good enough to permit safe flight through the others.

On top of that the flypast will have to have minimal impact upon other aircraft operations, in the London area we're talking London City and Heathrow.

So, scabby weather in an obstacle-rich environment (think Canary Wharf towers, the City of London and of course The Shard) plus a 60-ship formation and there's real opportunity for le merde to frappe le fan.  The Vauxhall helicopter crash a few years ago was due to pilot 'pressonitis' in barely VFR conditions - he didn't see the crane he hit.

I saw the helicopter element departing the London CTR through a bedroom window - they were at 500 ft and I can tell you the cloud and vis were poor - only just good enough for VFR flight.

So yes, disappointing the flypast was scaled back, but absolutely the right decision.

Yeah, I understand all that really, but if it was bad enough to stop the fighter size jets, how some the Junos and the Reds could fly?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Looks like the flypast for HM the Kings Official birthday today after the Trooping The Colour parade will be pretty much the one planned for his coronation

It's actually for my mother's birthday (79) which is today (real, not official).  Organised as a thanks for her years of service to neighbourhood watch and the girl guides.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Must admit I liked the Typhoons (not the proper ones of course  ;) ) "spelling" out the CR
