Kawasaki Ki-162 Bill

Early in 1945 it became clear that the jet aircraft then in development in Japan would not provide sufficient performance in time to fight the new US jets that they knew were being developed.
In order to provide a quick solution, the Japanese went the same way as the Soviets did with the design of the Yak-15 fighter. They took a piston engine fighter and bolted a jet engine under the nose.

At first the Ishikawajima Ne-20 was proposed to power this new fighter but it quickly became clear that the more powerful Ishikawajima Ne-30 would be needed to provide enough power. As an airframe the Kawasaki Ki-61 Tony was chosen. This combination received the designation Ki-162 and first flew in October 1945. The allies give this fighter the code name Bill.

Before the end of the was in 1946, only 23 examples of the Ki-162 were flown, caused by a shortage of working engines. Just before the capitulation, all surviving Bills were destroyed by factory workers and no example of the Ki-162 survived.

Model: 1/72 Hasegawa Ki-61 and engine from PM Yak-15

Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

It's a Land Rover, NOT a Jeep . Like a Jeep, but for gentlemen.

Nice.  Really needs like the Yak-15 a metal tail wheel.

IIRC it did have one, for obvious reasons.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)
