I think in the video it states that he was cast in the film, then kept on commenting about inaccuracies.

Either way, I read an article by Someone-I-should-be-able-to-name-but-can't who was hired as a technical advisor but was ignored every time he raised an issue, he was, after filming, told that technical advisors are hired to be seen & not heard, that they are there merely so the director & producers can say they "had a technical advisor on set".
