Well, not that I'm a guy who likes rules and such, but I thought we'd benefit from as  set of loose guidelines to follow for the Troph Twin Tail Tribute build.
The goal is to maximize participation, even if all you do is vote. There will be three model prizes, a first a second and third place prize, each in diminishing values but basically prizes for efforts shown. When they all arrive in the mail I will post the picture of them.
What's even newer is we're including something that is really Trophish. We are also having a prize for artwork/ concept drawings for those who love the what if world but don't necessarily build models. That prize will be nothing short of one of Troph's fantastic books personally signed but the master himself. This way everyone can contribute.
The only restriction to the build/artwork is that it must incorporate a twin tail. So existing P-38's built out of the box are as welcome as some nutty whacko concept that only exists in the twisted minds of the freaks who visit this site.
Winners are determined by online open voting similar to the Alvis method that worked so well last time.
Entry deadline is my birthday cause I'm special. Midnight, your locale, Sept 12th. (that gives everyone about 4 months or so past the Latin build-o-rama so you can compete in both!) Voting will be completed by midnight, your locale, Sept 15th. Winners announced the 16th my local and posted in the mail within the week to the winners.
So, have fun, don't forget the other builds.
Cheers
Gary

Hey Leigh, I've got an already built 72nd scale gannet that you can chop up if needed...........it'd be a shame to part with those contra-props, but for you ? Sure !

How can you possibly post an avatar of your two lovely daughters, and then post such perversity?!

Thanks Gary: you make me think I will be able to participate in the model part, building in August my first model since the early 1990s :) ... There will be no time  :( to create and finish the difficult Twin-Whirlwind that I planed as first, but I may build one of my twin-boom Unicraft kits :) , just out of the box, though what-if in several directions:
- pure project, never used, never flown, never ordered, never manufactured
- fantasy colours, all pink or sky, without the considered national roundings
- peaceful version, with guns removed to be just like a racer
- glider version, with propellers removed to be closer to a silent bird than to a roaring machine (landing gear removed also, while this is not fantasy but in-flight aspect - for most of the planes)
- impossible weight balance with engine exhaust pipes removed meaning no engine weight where necessary for this layout (sorry Evan :( , this is just my fantasy, and I fully respect your job and expertise in things that work :) )
- no clear canopy but a black-painted one, focusing on shape and not pilot control (sorry Ollie :( , this is just my way, and I respect yours as well :) )

I will have naive questions, after my so long time away from modelling...: are the paints still Humbrol/Enamel, does a company like Hannants provide them? and ready-to-use putty and water-abrasive-paper? Which glue do you use for Resin kits (cyanoacrylide fast one?)? etc... I will ask all facing problems in August, probably.
Thanks again! Gary, Leigh, Toad, Nev, all...

Tophe, Hannants will only send paints with a kit.  Not sure if they stock Humbrol enamels, but they do sell their own excellent xtracolour/xtracrylics range of enamels and acrylics.  But wouldn't you be better buying paints from your local hobby shop?

Dear Nev, I live in a very small town with no model shop. And this is the biggest town in the erea... the factory has been installed among the fields to avoid huge taxes in French cities...
But you are right, there must be shops in Paris or nearer in Lyon, and willing to send by local post what I need. I will simply buy a French modeller magazine to get adresses with advertisement.
Thanks again... :)

PS. I may also ask JCC or his French Modelstories Forum. But it is sad that hobby shops (in France at least) have no more model kit part :( ... When I was a child, modeling was the main pleasure of quiet boys, now it is maybe video games, I don't know. Too bad... :(

Just a question - are twin fin aircraft like the F-15 eligable?  What about tail-less twin fins like the YF-23?

Tophe talks about them here but doesn't say wether he regards them as twins or not....

I have an idea for a tail-less twin fin a la YF-23, but want to know if its eligable or not...

And do Canards count as tails?

Canards are called tail-first in English books...

According to me, I am not the one to decide. We could make a poll, for instance, and the majority would be right. No?
(the title of this forum is "twin-tail", while my subject - after deep analysis - was "twin-tail-tubes", but I am not the center of the Universe, and Leigh's twin-fin F-16 was a marvel, yes - while I love the P.1216 more than the F-15... Not easy...)

What if it's a twin seater with two hot girls in the cockpit does that count?
