One beauty of 3D kits is it's relatively easy for someone across the other side of the world to take a licence and be able to print kits.  Either that, or if you have a 3D printer, you can buy a copy of the STL file print it yourself.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

The problem being piracy, with people who've bought the files passing them
along or selling prints from the files.
Neither of which is authorized because
someone bought the model files.
The old resin "recasting" problem has
just been transfered to the digital realm.
It's plain old theft.

Hmm, that old (new digital) chestnut. :-\
The dogs philosophy on life.
If you cant eat it hump it or fight it,
Pee on it and walk away!!

Piracy will always be an issue, but like you say, no different than any other method. Even injection kits get pirated. That being said there are things that can be done with STL files that give you a little more protection, but nothings perfect.
