last night i watched the movie "The Rocketeer", its really worth watching.
halfway in the movie, cliff was brought to howard hughes's factory, and there he got to see a german propaganda cartoon, with thousands of german soldiers with a rocketpack strapped on.

then the idea struck me, what if the germans HAD the rocket and used it to take over the world.

here's an image of what i mean.

-all kinds of things.

I remember this film! Quite good and interesting.
your flying men remind me the "planos" in the Blake&Mortimer "l'enigme de l'atlantide" :)
Cool whatif indeed, Nils! Ideas are coming...

Clonel Harry Cover was flying its Mustang over Germany, escorting B-17s. Suddendly, its plane was shaken, the canopy was open abruptely and he was ejected of his fighter. He opened his parachute... On the plane, the German rocket men get ride of the mask protecting his face, seized the controls, closed the canopy and landed the Mustang at Rechlin, were it was tested and dismantled.

King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Nah, just let Hughes make it for the Americans like he planned.  Then, just buy these guys.  ;)

Will die without understanding this world.

Except the Cirrus X-5  wasn't invented by Hughes but rather was the work of Doc Savage.
They changed it to Hughes when they made the film  , personally I prefer the original comic version over the movie, especially the Locust   and Cliff's girlfriend Bettie...the face of Bettie Page and, evidently, the body of artist Dave Steven's ex-wife.

That said the Rakentruppe film was one of the high points of the film...although simple physics makes the concept unrealistic for the real world, as the US military discovered after spending lots o bucks with Bell.

Cheers, Jon

It'd go well with your Heliofly project Chuck, chop & dice em with the helicopter pack, then chargrill em with the rocket!

Simon.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

You know, I recently saw something along those lines in one of the recent issues of Fine Scale Modeler.  I believe they are 1/35 scale and called something like Rackettruppen.
"As long as people are going to call you a lunatic anyway, why not get the benefits of it?  It liberates you from convention."- from the novel WICKED by Gregory Maguire.
