Looking on Google Earth today you can quite clearly see where many of the 'Beechinged' lines went, the Somerset and Dorset running from Bath to Poole being a good example.

NO problem! They could have dropped down to their normal cruise altitude and read the road signs!  ;D

.............and risked prosecution for driving without due consideration for other road users.  (Road Traffic Act 1988. section 3)

Ah, but as they'd still have their gear retracted they wouldn't actually be 'driving', would they?

And I don't think the word 'flying' occurs in the Road Traffic Act 1988, or indeed in ANY Road Traffic Act.  ;)

Interesting trivial fact: In the Highway Traffic Act for the Province of Ontario, the closest it comes to having a 'good Samaritan' statute is removing aircraft from a road:
QuoteNo liability where good faith
(5) No proceeding for damages shall be instituted against a member of a police service, a police service board, the Crown in relation to a member of the Ontario Provincial Police or a pilot for an act or an omission done or omitted to be done by it, him or her in respect of the subject-matter of subsection (3) where the member of the police service or pilot was acting in good faith. 2019, c. 1, Sched. 4, s. 24 (12).

Good to see that the Province of Ontario still write statutes and laws in good old Civil Service "Bamboozlese"

Batting northeastwards along the Severn through the gloom of a November evening went two Wildcats and an Apache 'escort' in one hell of a hurry.  :o

And they didn't seem to be obeying the 250 ft asl rules either!

If any aircraft flew around the US at 250 agl people would be calling 911 to report a crash or calling to scream about the noise. You guys are so lucky! I'd love it!

Depends on where, of course.  I've seen Blackhawks flying 50' over the Palisades Parkway (and below summit height of Bear Mountain) a couple of times while heading up to West Point on PX runs.  WGR has done scenarios with special operators and A-10s flying escort from the GSP to the range, and we (227 ASOS) did it ADR on our first summer camp during a TACP qual.

 ;D  ;D

I once had occasion to drive across Salisbury Plain in my Volvo 850 Estate and was 'going it a bit', as you do. As I crossed a slight hill I found I'd caught up with an Army Lynx that was flying in the valley alongside me! He was REALLY low!  ;D
