Right now it looks like those spots on steel where the corrosion has worked its way under the paint and bubbled it up. Very cool.

I think about painting those spots in a light color, silver, white or gold, as a better Base for the rust effect coming later, maybe it is better to do that before i started the white camo ?

Depends on how heavy the rust is mate...even it's a medium amount it will rip through white because it's a very red and orange colour and it will really stand out.
I'd spray the white camo..then do your rust affects ..start with light rust and then go from there ..see which rocks ya boat best..light..medium or heavy 🤔
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .

Thank you very much for your help. The big parts of putty must be massive corrosion, those kind of rust that went to volume... But i think you are right, the white camo first.
I have decided to use acryl color and a lot of washing instead the rattle can for the white, and work on it with a toothbrush to fade it for aging.  So it is easy to ad some white later if it is usefull.

Your techniques are very different from anything I would do. I learn something new every time.

It's just trying ...
Not so easy putting this white stuff on the tank. There are zillions of corners and edges all over who make it difficult with a brush, and these varnish must be applied in one go and not to slow.

I have also found two more new Vallejo colors for the rust at the local dealer , i have four different shops who trade them here in Hannover, very luxury for classic shopping ...

Painting white with a fluffy stick is a PITA at the best of times bud ...spraying white is really the only way to go .
White is so translucent it takes a few sprays when trying to paint over a dark colour.
Only benefit tho is sanding with a 800 or 1000 grit wet and dry sand paper you can get some very nice weathering.
It's great fir edges

When I look at that recent pic I see the head of the robot dog K9 from Doctor Who impersonating the laser cannon on the top! Otherwise coming along nicely.
I made a zombie Apocalypse truck a long time ago and sprayed rusty brown first then the white. Then I sanded the edges and certain spots to look like rust coming through the white.  Just my $0.02.
