It's not the original 1978 tooling, it was modified by CPG in the early 80s to turn it into a snap fit kit, which if anything actually ruined the fit of the original and lost some of the detail.

I have an original 1978 and a BTK release in that horrible blue plastic on the go right now.

Despite it's basic level, it's bang on both dimensionally and shape wise. Both Ventura and Aeroclub used it as a basis for their kits and conversions.  In some respects it's better than the current Airfix mk1a, tooled in 2010.
