Sir Michael Caine, one of my favourite actors anyway, has always impressed me with his portrayal of military characters. Even though playing Lieutenant Gonville Bromhead in a somewhat mocking tone a, he still gave him the dignity of competence.

This well considered gift surprises me not at all.
