Saving "impossible-to-save" images

Some online images are restricted from saving, copying or otherwise downloading in various ways.  Lately, I've been playing around with Internet Explorer capabilities and discovered the following:

1. Method One
When "right-click" is disabled, instead left-click on the desired image, hold down the left mouse button and move the cursor up to the Internet Explorer address field.  Release the left mouse button.  This will often result in your being transferred to the direct URL of the image itself from where you CAN right-click and "save" the image.  Go ahead, try it right now with my avatar at the left.

2. Method Two
For those really tough-to-save images where Method One above and no copy/paste/select all functions or anything else seems to work, try this:

i. Use Internet Explorer's toolbar as follows: Tools/Mail and News/"Send Page" to "mail" the actual page (not just the link) to yourself (this may result in a warning from IE stating that some images may not be sent-----send it anyway);

ii. Open the internet webpage you've just mailed to yourself in MS Outlook;
iii. Select "File" then "Save As" while viewing the Outlook message;
iv. Save the file "as is" in a folder of your choice;
v. Open the saved file and choose "File" then "Select All"
vi. Once the webpage's various elements are highlighted, NOW use your right mouse button and choose "Save Picture As"
vii. You should now be able to save the image.

I have found this works even on the most restricted websites.  Sometimes you just got to have your modeling reference photo on your own hard-drive in case the blinking online image and/or the whole website gets relocated, deleted or you just plain forget where that one-of-a-kind image was!

QuoteCan you not take a screen shot?
That always seems to result in a very poor quality reproduction, even on-screen (for me, anyhow).

You can often save the entire webpage, including all images.

Alternatively, use Mozilla or Firefox, which mostly ignore these silly restrictions.

Another method I've used somethimes is this one :
first, to make finding them easy, clean out your temporary internet files folder, then reopen the page. If you haven't closed the Temp folder, refresh the view and 99% of the times, the images are inthere. Just copy them to whatever folder you want.

I was faced with a similar problem recently and discovered that Barry's click and drag to the address box method is one way that works but I also discovered that by opening up windows paint brush application you can left click your mouse and drag the image into paintbrush where it will display quite nicely and allow you to immediately save it to your hard drive.  I have been using this technique all afternoon to save images from the China Lake Naval Ordnance Test Station web page which has conveniently disabled the right click function to preclude you from copying the copyrighted images.  So far it has worked out very well and some previously unobtainable reference images of some very interesting weapons have now come to reside on my hard drive.

i use the little popup image toolbar that comes up in MSIE when you hold your cursor over images.

what annoys me is searching for images on yahoo and getting blocked images. instead i get something that says "IM A RETARD BECAUSE I HOTLINK IMAGES"

anyone know of a graceful way to get around those? only method i know is to open up the page the image is on and reload. sometimes the pictures were on older versions of the page and cant me found tho <_<

COOL!  This is way easier than using my screen capture software. Errrr I mean why would I save a pic someone doesn't want me to save? wink wink  :ph34r:
