Here's a pic of Minicraft's 1/144 B-29 I bashed into a whiffer airliner for Eastern. The windows atop the fuse were inspired by some concept drawings I saw of an improved B-50. The nosecone is the spinner from an old 1/72 ANT fighter. The decals are left over from Minicraft's Lockeheed Electra. I call this "Swords into Plowshares".

P.S. Sorry the pic is blurry...hopefully soon I'll figure out how to install my better cam. My next airliner project will involve a civilian whiffer of a B-36 (grafting the nose of a Lockeheed Electra onto it and flipping the wings so they're on the bottom). I'm hoping the 1/144 Allegheny Airlines decals offered on Squadron will work...

So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Now that is a nice introduction Brian! Good concept and execution.

Oh I like that!!!

Some ancient B-17s still flew carrying meat supplies....imagine B-29s doing the same? But I suppose it was too complex? But this is WhatIf?-land, so who cares?
Some South american airline with B-29s converted? And b-50s too (thinking Academy 1/72nd)?????

Hi Brian,

And I think it's a great model too.

Lovely! Converted B-29s like that sure look like an interesting alternative to stratocruisers. :)

I think the B-36 will be an Xmas present for myself. Gonna have to order through Squadron when my OT pay comes in unless I get lucky and my local hobby shop has both the 1/144 B-36 and Lockheed Electra as well as some good decals. I'd like to do it in Allegheny Airlines livery being a Pittsburgher, but I might settle for Pan-Am or Trans Ocean or something obscure. I can't say I'm looking forward to painting all that white on the fuse.

I'm glad you all enjoyed it despite the cheapo cam!

P.S. Once I get the other cam installed (no software) I want to take pics of some of my other whiffers...like my 1943-era "retrofitted" B-29 (dang those Minicraft kits are easy meat for this stuff). That build is what I imagined a B-29 to be like if it was built with the same technology used for the XB-17. Oh, and I've also managed to convert the Minicraft B-17G into a B-17B in 1/144 of course. I gotta get that cam working!

P.P.S. I also have a 1/144 Boeing B-9X I bashed using a pen for a fuse and the wings from a P-36. I used spare  cokpits and blister-pack material to envision what it might look like with enclosed cockpits etc. to compete with the B-10.
