Take a peice of high density insulation foam and rough carve the top to wider than the wing or fuselage but insure a flat bottom. This is the base and will be glued to the shipping box. Add 1/2 inch of foam rubber on top More if necessary. Drive a dowel through the bottom of the base. If your wing has loads of flap detail you may consider cutting out for the fuselage or the tail planes or anyhwere you might find suitable purchase for the model to rest on.

Now before you glue the base in the box take rubber bands and attach the foamy part to the model in the safe area of the wing or what ever and insure the rubber band has a good solid and safe hold. Then apply carpenters glue to the base and glue base and attached modet to the bottom of shipping box. Once it sets up, you have a fantastic shipping box and the detaily bits won't be knocked off. Several guys from halifax use exactly that and they've had great success, even shippping on aircraft! No damage!
