The RN did use the F-4J(UK) version, which were ex-USN F-4J's, modified for Skyflash (I think), and used until the Tornado ADV was ready for use.

Or is Lee talking about F-4B's or J's in the 70's fleet scheme?

Holey snapping arceholes that is so cool! I was looking at the Mirage VG but I can't seem to locate a two seat, tiwn engined Mirage F1. Hmmm, should I forgo and do a single seater single engined version?

And in so far as the other phantoms you mentioned, yes please, I'd love to see 'em.
Cheers
Getting back into modeling

Someone makes a Mirage G (i thing thats the suffix) in 1/72. limited run and horribly expensive tho.

Ah, ok.  Coincidentally, I picked up an ancient Esci F-4J today for cheap that I had no idea what to do with...   :D

The Royal navy handed its tooms to the RAF when the old Arkroyal made her final trip to the breakers yard. The F-4J(UK) went directly to the RAF, The RN only had Sea harriers as its fixed wing combat fleet at the time.

But a bog standard B or J in in RN markings would be a simple affair to sort out....might just oblige you there Lee.
I always hope for the best.

QuoteI have a pathological hatred of Phantoms but that is an excellent piece of modelling.

But what I want to know is why no one - no one! - has done the bleedin' obvious?  An "off the shelf" USN Phantom (and I neither know nor care about the correct subtype) in FAA markings, the backstory being that the Treasury blocked the anglicised Spey versions as being too expensive and the RN just bought more off the shelf.
Actually Lee it was the F-4B that was originally offered to the UK, but with cancellation of CVA-01 a redesign was needed for use on the current carriers and with the TSR-2, 1154 and HS-681 all for the chop it was descided to fit UK engiines to keep the industry alive (barely).

As for the Mirage Shasper i think your getting confused with either the recent Anigrand Mirage 4000 heavy fighter or the Sharkit Mirage III Balzac VTOL test bed. A Mirage G has been propossed however.

RN, RAF, all the same nowadays (what with the joint deployments of Harriers on their carriers in recent years).
