Try the gel Super Glue and spray with accelerator - it's dry in a minute and can be sanded.
It's not as expensive as it sounds as the glue bridges the gap at the top and doesn't go down to the bottom of the joint.

I buy the Super Glue at my local DIY shop (it's cheapest there) whilst Hannants sell the accelerator.

As I've got this putty monster of a BAe EAP to make, what sort of putty do people around here generally use, and what's the average cost?

As for this EAP, I'm considering a trip to B+Q for a giant tub of window putty..... :s
