Folks,

I just caught wind of this site via post over on HyperScale's Discussion page.  This is an Italian site dealing with prototype aircraft and most of those center around WWII Italian designs.  The SAVOIA MARCHETTI SM.92 is hella cool!

Too cool! It's like a hybridization of the PE2 and a P38, with Italian engines and a daschund gunner pod  glued to the tail!

BTW...been watching some of the "interesting" SSM threads lately and didn't realise it was the same Madoc!  ^_^

It's OK, thanks... ^_^ Nice twin-fuselage 92, while... to be what-ifed further we should imagine a Japanese version (by Kawasaki?) or something. :P

Question: Why does it have Luftwaffe markings?

The S.M. 92 flew for the first time in November 1943 after Italy had capitulated, so the flight testing was done under Luftwaffe control.

then go to volume 3, #1 (March 1998) and read the article

What would be interesting would be the confusion a fight between a P-38 and a SM.91 would create (see that same Chandelle article for the SM.91).

I remember that issue of Chandelle as I really thought those "Italian Twins" were ubber cool.  I know it stated in their write up that some of them actually flew but that didn't seem all that real until I saw these photos.

Just think what might've been had some of those birds survived the war and then got picked up by some of those Cleveland boys to go racing with against the hopped up Corsairs and Lightnings!  Now there'd be a race worth watching!

The souped-up P-39 at the Cleveland race would have eaten it alive!

Heck, even a F2G couldn't keep up with it!

I think that one of those Czech companies might of made a model of it but I'm not sure.
