Rightyo folks, here's my new baby. When I obtain a vast sum of money by whatever means it happens to fall into my lap by, I will be investing in a P-38, making the airframe smooth, streamlining it a bit, and using it as my personal airracer, registration G-CATS  B)

Where've all dem rivets gone?!

The result of endless sandings, with more to do!

Pleased with how it's coming along, I may get a model build inside 6 months!

   Nifty stuff Mr Cat. I for one sincerely hope you do come into the money, although I have a feeling CAA won't warm to the idea of a felis domesticus crewing a high-speed ex-military aircraft.......

The Cat a.k.a Meowbag

They won't know anything about it.

Fixed undercart (been having some really wil thoughts regarding a fixed undercart  :D ) or retractible? Decisions, decisions :)

The aerodynamic cover over the turbo seems to be a first what-if step, but have I dreamed or did you speak (in another topic) of a streamlined racing canopy for this P-38? This would be very difficult, especially if clear...

Nope, you didn't dream it, I'm going to have a crack at it later today if I feel well enough to go round my mate's house. (she's got a gas cooker, I don't.)

Would've done my priming today but I keep finding gaps that need filling, I'll then sand them smooth and see more gaps! It's a vicious circle I tell ya!

What else could I do to streamline it, do you think?

As far as streamlining is concerned, you will never be as aerodynamic as my Space Ship Zero and its Russian counterpart.

But a Reno racer needs engines, propellers, span...
Drag :(  (and seriousness  ) remains necessary, at least a little. ^_^

that's crazy! Don't think I'd really get away with that, though. And yes, I have done a remoulded bubble canopy, no pics as yet though.

Running out of ideas now. I was thinking of a fixed main gear with another l'il wing running between them, but I can't think how it'll look any good

Looking good oh Pussycato. Don't go with the fixed gear though. Will break up the smooth lines and make your airracer way slower then with retractable gear.
(Just my 2 €cents though)

Yesterday I was looking at a P-38 photo, when suddendly I just asked myself : what about a swept wing P.38 (the outer part of the wing, on the side of the twin booms?) We can also fit  turboprops...
Sorry to hijack this thread...
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

This had disappeared down to page 5, so I'm sure you're all aching for some updates ... so here they are!

All's left to do is the pattern on the wings and registration whereever I decide it's going, fit the gear and canopy, and make it nice and shiny with Klear  B)

(And the obvious tidying up, naturally.)

Clicky el Piccies. heh

Coming along nicely, I think. Told you I was slow, though!

Really sweet looking bird, there !   Something about the lines of that plane that tugs at the heart strings...

Tophe

 Nice! Most of all, I love the gun-less racer nose, so clean & elegant...

And which kit/scale is this beauty being born from?

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

Cat, I love how you've streamlined this baby and the colors you chose for the paintjob. I think this build has earned you your tuna fish for the week. Excellent work!
