Yes the code 01 is for the beautiful prototype.
The ugly later ones were A to P if I remember correctly.

Why are they ugly? They're the same shape, just with some paint added.

They were larger.
The IV 01 was a proof of concept prototype.  They then made them larger to produce the IV A onwards.
Tope is right, the 01 is better looking than the production versions.  I didn't realise there was a difference and was putting it all down to camera angles.

After hours of Search, I have found the profile of the Mirage IV 01, oh so beautiful, so much better than IV A. I am going to draw this in a way that is easy to compare, mentioning sources, and you will see like me. Yes, the A is ugly compared to the 01... (according to me and maybe others).

I'm with Kit the production plane doesn't look so ugly compared to the prototype ( source wikipedia ).

This seems to be a Kfir C2 (like a small Mirage III) but with twin engines (like a big Mirage IV) and twin fins.
