Following the much publicised row between the UK government and the Pentagon related to the release of classified F-35 technical details, the British government finally made good on their threat to pull out of the JSF program.  In 2007 they announced that they would be buying the French Rafale M fighter to equip their 2 new carriers.

In a surprising move, 767 squadron was the first squadron to form on the new fighter - its amazing what having a former pilot high up in the MoD can do for an extinct fighter squadron

Kit is the Italeri 1/72 kit.  Which is typical Italeri, ie cheap, decent selection of stores, raised panel lines, non-existant detail mixed with lovely detail, appalling fit in some places, great fit in other places.

I started this kit on Saturday morning and finished it on Thursday evening.

Nev.... dear old thing..... where ya been, we missed you

Great model, now build a French Typhoon - bought by the Arme de l'Aire because the Rafale pilots complained that they couldn't get the smell of Vin d'Ordinaire out of the cockpits !  ;)

Decals are mainly from the Fujimi Phantom, ASRAAMs are from the Airfix NATO weapons set.

Absolutely beautiful!

It would look cool with a low-viz roundel on the rear part of the fuselage in the French/Spanish style...

SHHH!!!  You're ruining one of my still under construction Airfix GB entries

Nev, awesome job on the Rafale!  I like the Asraams on the tips.

As for the your Airfix GB entries, I think it would best be told in the style of Steve Irwin:

"Aw, look, we've stumbled across a seldom seen mating ritual between a VC10 and a T-34!  This is just beautiful!  I'm gonna get a littlle closer here...  We have to be careful, because the VC10 can fly into a murderous rage worse than a hungry croc if it knows we're here watching!  Notice the TSR2, still in it's nest in the background, getting ready to do, well, something!"
