As you can see, the boat now has prop housings and the tailplane. If you haven't worked it out yet, ask Tophe's mate, Paul, he knows.

Is that a saunders roe giant flying boat used by BOAC?

Tophe

Are the 4 little protruding points: engines?? So small... able to propel such a giant seaplane? Weird... :D
I will ask Lark, yes.

Wow Glenn I just love your flying boat projects. My first guess on this one is a Martin Mars. I'm probably wrong again, but at least it's a starting point. I can't wait to see your progress on this one!

BTW, any finsihed pics yet of that wonderful Pterydactyl?

Is that a Saunders Roe Princess? It has 6 engines, a wing, boat hull, ugly front, prophousing looked the same like yours!    :P  B)

Glenn

First, it's American and will be finished in Pan Am markings
Second, of the three designs, this one looked the best to make.
Third, The idea was put forward by Charles Lindbergh in 1940, and squashed as the ships would be too big. This one would have had a span of 230 feet.
Fourth, each engine was to be 2300hp, I still think 6 engines would have been safer!

Brian, the Pterydactyl is shelved at present, although I thought of doing her as a Naval boat, I've re thought of doing her in Civil markings, QANTAS (post war) comes to mind.

Just found an old book (1944), and it had a section on aircraft in 1943-44, and showed a flying boat called the Sikorsky Ocean-Airliner. It had 6 engines, double decker, and pan am was the launch customer! and the picture looks like your model.

Tophe

I know, I know, PauLark told me... ^_^
But as Glenn keeps on teasing, I will not reveal the secret... :P

Have you counted the nacelles on Glenn's model, B797LR? Take another look, please! :P

Glenn, whatever she is, I'm sure she'll come out a real stunner. And the Pterodactyl, post-war QANTAS? BRILLLLLLLLIIIIIIIIIAAAAAAAAAANT!!!!!

Glenn

I do have the plans of the Sikorski, but the tails (3) and tailplane were too small.
The second I turned, Boeing, same reason, but this one was perfect!

Glenn

OK, construction finished and undercoated.

Tophe

 Very nice!
It will be even better with the canopy painting, like an eye giving all the personality to the seabird model...

PS Tophe, she's finished in chrome silver with a black anticorrosive hull,
I wonder what Paul has for me next?
