We've already had quite a long thread on a similar subject with regards to the Harrier, so I thought I'd start one for the Lightning.

I'll start by suggesting the one possibility mentioned on the 'Thunder and Lightnings' website, http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/li...ng/history.html, the possible sale of ex-Saudi aircraft to Austria instead of the ex-Swedish Drakens.

Or how about Germany and the Benelux countries instead of the F-104?

why so many for Burkina Faso

Because, Michael Wren and Richard thought it might be interesting for them to individually come up with some African "What if" Lightning F.6 schemes. Four countries were picked, Central African Republic, Liberia, Burkina Faso and Guinea Bissau, then the creating began - what you see is the result.  Here are some more of Mike's from that little splurge:
