Hence the Napier Nomad. At the time, it was the most fuel-efficient aircraft engine ever, iirc.

I'd still like to have seen the Nomad engined Shackleton.   Conservatively flown, with in flight refuelling,  a crew could serve an entire tour of duty in one flight!
