Now that gives me an idea: Arado unsuccessfully proposed the fixed-gear monoplane Ar-80 for the Luftwaffe fighter requirement, and the biplane Ar-197 as a carrier fighter for the Graf Zeppelin, both of which lost to Bf.109 variants. Suppose that instead, they'd proposed an Ar-196 with a single seat and the Ar-80's fixed spatted wheels for the carrier requirement? OR, if the Kreigsmarine shared the FAA's ideas about two-seat fighters, you could leave the back seat in, making it the almost perfect German equivalent of the Skua.

Backstory idea: the Germans followed the Japanese idea of building "seaplane tenders" with strong decks and minimal upperworks that could be quickly converted to proper carriers once hostilities commenced and treaty restrictions went into abeyance. It would be a natural next step to equip them with seaplane that could be quickly converted to carrier fighters.....

I think the French markings were used on a plane from a German raider early in the war. The raiders operating in the far east had Hinomaru to avoid friendly fire problems.

Hi Geoff. I knew some U-Boats used Penang as a base at some point but wasn't aware there were raiders operating in the Indian Ocean at that stage of the war. Yoi live and learn  ;D

The Canberra is interesting news, and it could well be tied in with Airfix, unless its the Special Hobby/MPM one that was announced a few years ago.

Any ideas on what the Merlin EHS is ?, hopefully its the Italian Navy versions, but no doubt it will be Japanese & Portugeuse instead.

I hope they do a new F-35B Lightning II based on actual data, rather than their usual trick of tarting up their inaacurate X-35 kit and passing it off as the F-35 !!!!. Their Harrier GR-7/AV-8B are still based upon their ropey YAV-8b prototype, and considering the X-35 kit was modelled on a mock up and guess work its not even an accurate X-35 to begin with !!!!.

BTW Italeri have announced a British Vosper MTB in 1/35th scale    (Although their Italian MAS boast have yet to appear in either 1/72nd or 1/35th as yet  :banghead:)

I think those ATRs may well be Italeri's first forays into the 1/144 airliner market. And easy to stretch into a '72 as well.

Hope so, although still no sign of the 1/48 kit <_<

Kinetic reboxings continue with the 1/48 Hawkeye & Barak.

1:48 Kfir...... That'll be the old Esci kit, back amongst us..... So much What If potential right there. Still no AMX in any scale, I see..... despite the four letters I wrote (again) in 2009  :banghead:

That ESCI Kfir was a real dog but the only one to be had in 48th scale.  I wonder if they will tart it up with some additional parts like they did with the Mirage F.1 and the Mirage III kits?  The original kit was a bit lean on under-wing options and the Sidewinder shapes were just that, shapes but the box art was bitchin'!

You should know by now that the only way for the AMX to be offered in injection molded plastic is for you to start scratch-building your own or purchase the resin kit which will cause the forces of nature to finally see your real wish come true...

I think, Jeff, that they were going for Mk1 Shafrir's..... but perhaps I'm just being naive/kind

Y'know if I didn't know you better, Monsieur Fontaine, I'd swear there's a wee bit of cynicism there....

They said they would never ever do any civil ATR, only the maritime patrol version. Anyway, i look forwards to it! Hope it's a -500!

Will be getting a Kfir or two, really great boxart on the Esci kit. One was up on ebay yesterday and went for 23.50 inc P+P, hopefully Italeri wont be too pricey.
Looked around for several hours yesterday trying to find a mention of a Merlin EHS and found squat! anyone else have any luck?
