Seems Italeri have a 'new' Corsair for release.  Suez markings abound.

I believe that it is a re-issue as I am sure that is the one I have half build somewhere.

I believe they have released the kit before (marketed as an USMC AU-1 and French -7).  First time for all French markings hence the 'new' rather than new.

How 'new' is the 'new' Spitfire HF.VI kit?  I assume it's based on the Vb with added wingtips and a 4-blade prop?
Always been disappointed with the Italeri Spits (he said, opening up a hornet's nest of Spifire kit opinion!) - the Vb is much better than the IXc, however.

Both of the Italeri Spits are garbage, not even worth stripping for spares.  The VI will be awful too. And at a tenner, they can stick it.

Better off getting the AZ one as it's much nicer.  Pricier, but you get some spares.

Chose my words carefully, Wooksta - said the Vb was better than the IX, didn't say it was good, though!
My VI is already in the stash - long ago got an Airfix Vb to which an Aeroclub 4-blade prop, new canopy and resin upper wing from Paul Lucas's Airkit range.  Must get round to building it one day.

Except the Airkit upper wing is a C wing with extended tips and intended for the Matchbox IX to turn it into a VII.  Did it meself 20 years ago and that wing doesn't fit the Airfix Vb.  You'd be better off with the Freightdog HFVII conversion and split it - the tail bits onto the Airfix IX to do an VIII and the tips onto the Vb as a VI.

Jeepers & I thought a recent Dragon release was tacky!  The Black Hawk isn't even one of the alleged 'special' ones.

Italeri have another Chinook for release, this time a radar nose equipped version with Dutch & Spanish decals.

The Wooksta!

It's based on their Spitfire Vb and that was bad enough.

Lee, it comes down to economics for many.  I'm sure given the price difference between an Italeri Spitfire and a Hasegawa one for instance would be astronomical and there's no real guarantee of the more expensive kit being any more accurate.

Mav

The Wooksta!

The Hasegawa one is an VIIIc airframe with a 2 stage Merlin, not a VI, and TBH, it's not that good a kit anyway.  Detailwise, it's no better than the Airfix IXc and the fit in places is appalling (I've two stalled now plus a third to start).  The tool has more options but that's it.

If it's economics and you don't care about detail, buy the Airfix Vb AND the Smer VI - use the VI sprue on the Airfix V (it works, I've done it) and build the Smer kit as a V.  Costs a quid or two more than the Italeri abortion but you get two models out of it.  The Smer kit also has a Vokes filter for tropical aircraft and the decals are very nice indeed.  Certainly better than Italeri ones.

Fair call Lee.  I'm sure there will be more to come from many different stables regarding the Spit.  As you've noticed, AZ has an HF.VI available.  Would it be a more accurate or otherwise superior kit?
