Can anyone help me get hold of the Model Aircraft Monthly April edition with the first part of the TSR2 colour scheme article?  I have seen the June edition with the amzingly complete stuff on Blue Water, but the publishers tell me that April is fully sold out!

What did the April edition cover? Perhaps now that it is out of print some kind soul could scan the colour pages for this site. Otherwise I suppose its Ebay?

I've not managed to get ANY of the TSR.2 editions so far   Maybe worth suggesting the publisher issues them all collated as a special issue ?

We'll have a word with Neil once he'f fit enough to return to work, see if he can do something for us.

I do not want to any scans posted on this site or links to scansas MAM have some very tight copywrite constraints and i would not like the site to become a croper as people involved with the magazine are aware of this website. !!!!!!!!

Try Smiths or Transport in Preston about the last weekend in each month of failing that put in a subscription. The TSR2 looks to have been quite a populart subject and may lead to further similar articles on our sort of subject matter in the near future.

Good news!  I spoke to the Aviation Book Centre yesterday and they are going to send me a copy of the April edition.  The June edition currently on sale has TSR2s with Blue Water (I got mine from Smiths in Oxford).

Sorry, I forgot about copyright, maybe the folk who produced the stuff, Paul Lucas and Jon Freeman (artist) can be persuaded to do something for the site.

I would love to see more what if stuff in this form. In particular the same treatment could be given to the HS1154 and HS681. Also some pictures showing the planes working together at RAF bases.

Good man

At my last model club meeting, Mercia, the magazine (model Aircraft Monthly) was coming in for a lot of criticism in that it was spending far too much time on "silly what ifs"...the TSR2.
I had "an argument"!!

Had contact with Neil yesterday and he hopes to be back in action soon.

Your Mercia lot full of Anal retentive JMNS who are having 109 withdrawals Terry?

You must feel like your walking into the Lions den going to your club meets. I do hope you won your argument with them  :D

From personal experience at the shows the articles have had nowt but praise and attracted a number of people to the SIG stand after being inspired by the articles.

I wouldn't call Pauls Articles "Silly What-Ifs" all have been well researched and are based upon official paperwork, obviously some speculation has been done to match intended plans to reality to cover the 10 yr life of the TSR2 that was initially planned. Now Neil letting you do an article might produce some 'Silly what-if's' but that is your specialitiy

I remember Neil passing scorn on the TSR2 kit idea when we started campaigning but as the topic became popular following the prospect of the Airfix kit some serious research from the official archives promted Neil to get Paul to investigate and research the program properly. The fact that we have had 5 articles and addon accessories give testiment to how much work was done on TSR2 and how great the blow was when it was actually culled it term of capability loss !!! I know its increased interest in the Mag and boosted sales so we may see more of a similar ilk in the future

Wait till Joes book appears next year for an in-depth appraisal of the TSR2.

Cheers

Be interesting to find out if they've sold more copies of the magazine with the TSR2 article in it.

That's a good point, Aircav.
I know editors often like to run short series of articles as it helps sell magazines.

Have no fear, the boys knew fairly well that I thought they were talking bollocks due to:
*the articles being very well researched, well written and well illustrated
*the Airfix kit was a best seller by current standards, and unlike some other "new" kits, are actually being built!
*where else but MOM currently do people find out about the TSR2?
*whether they like it or not, such speculation is valid as modellers turn to subjects other than endless repeats of Spitfires, '109s, F-16s et al.
*it was a free market, and if the magazine was full of crap, no one would buy it anyway....and it was selling like hot cakes! ie, the market decided that the TSR2 series was a bonzer winner.

Yes, nice blokes but very anally retentive at times. They do enjoy my forays into whatiffery, however.

Do I give a stuff about what they think anyway? No. I just keep on turning out whatiffery....REAL stuff has lost its allure for the time being, but it'll be back as I've some pet projects to do in the future....eventually. :ar:

I think he TSR2 articles have been incredibly well researched and written. The two articles on the weapons to be used certainly opened my eyes
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Paul Lucas is a very nice bloke and researches deeply from primary sources like all good historians.
He's good. And a modeller.

The thing that impresses me most is that they've come good as far as the resin kits are concerned. That shows a lot of faith and trust. Now it's up to the modelling cvommunity not to let them down.
