This was a fun Group Build, as it allowed me to clean out a bunch of stuff out of my stash

Like I said, do I expect to win?  Hell no!  Did I have fun?  Hell yes!  Should there be limits on my participation in future GB's?  You betcha!  I'll drown y'all in models if I get into one of my moods.

Here's my last entries for this GB.  Man, this was fun!

First up is the 1/72 Dominie.  It's a model I had no idea what I wanted to do to it when I bought it, just that I always wanted a VIP transport of some sort.  I was going to do this up as a civie for my own personal use when I eventually become a multi-millionaire.  I decided against this as I got into custom decal creation and my "Defenders of the Great Lakes" project for Michigan based aircraft.  This thing became the C-29B "Sky-SUV."  Funny thing about this is VR-62 "Motowners" was based at Selfridge with C-9B's until the mid-90's, when NAF Detroit closed up and VR-62 transferred out.  They're now out East, and are called the "Nor'easta's."

Whatif backstory:

C-29B Sky SUV VR-62 NAF Detroit

The US Navy bought a number of C-29B "Sky SUV's" for fleet logistics support and Priority transport.  A total of 38 C-29B's were bought and distributed around the nation.  They are similar to the USAF's C-29A, but have different engines and cabin configurations.

The following example is part of VR-62 "Motowners" and is stationed at NAF Detroit, at Selfridge ANGB in Michigan.  NAF Detroit is shared by four reserve squadrons, including VR-62, VP-93, VS-73 and VFA-209.

#1
Next up is an Aeritalia G91R.  I was looking at this thing, thinking it looked a lot like an F-86D or a Mig-15 era plane.  I decided I was going to do it up as a Russian plane and arm it with AA-1's.  In the middle of building it, I was reminded about Shasper's Socialist Ceylon and the markings he made up for it.  Since I was making custom decals for my Michigan projects, and a few other nations, Socialist Ceylon wasn't that difficult to come up with.

What-if backstory:

Fiat-91 Socialist Republic of Ceylon Air Force

The Fiat Fi-91 was a fighter used by the Socialist Republic of Ceylon Air Force early.  It has the approximate characteristics of the larger F-86 and Mig-15's, but was shorter ranged and slower.  It was armed initially with two AA-1 Alkalis, but was adapted to fire up to four AA-2 Atolls.  The planes had an eventful career against Indian, American, and other Western aligned forces.  They were retired when second hand Mig-17's and Mig-19's were acquired from the Soviet Union in 1968.

Seahawk WWII USN

Ok, this one I just wanted to do up this way.  Got inspired while looking through my decals box for another set of decals and found the old Testor's Dauntless instruction sheet and the paint schemes on it.  I had all the decals in the box, and did this (and the companion non-Airfix Skyraider) up.  I think it turned out quite well.

Absolutely no backstory, other than I thought it would look cool!

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Damm that Seahawk looks good in those colours.

I failed to mention in the Seahawk write-up that I actually built the thing about two weeks before I figured out what paint scheme it was going to get.  You ever have one of those kits where you just really want to build it just to see what it looks like put together, but once it's assembled, you have no idea how to mark it?  This usually happens to me with Airfix kits.

Glad y'all like the Seahawk!  I was thinking of doing some other aircraft in that scheme, maybe a Vigilante or Scooter.
