CF-144A Snow Leopard-Canada

The CF-144 was an F-14A modified to Canadian Specs for the primary role of Interceptor to replace the old CF-101B Voodoos. The CF-144s were better in this role then the CF-188 Hornets, due to their longer range and the AIM-54 Phoenix system which allowed standoff interception over the Canadian Arctic of Soviet bombers. After the end of the Cold War,with it's primary mission no longer in existence, the CF-144s were brought up to F-14D standard and given a tactical fighter bomber role with GBU-24 Paveway IIIs,AGM-154 JSOWs and AGM-88C HARMs.AIM-120 AMRAAMs and AIM-132 ASRAAMs also replaced the long serving Sidewinders and Sparrows. As part of the modifications,a searchlight was installed under the canopy for night interception ID of unknown aircraft.

F-14A Tomcat-Australia

The Australian Tomcats were ordered in the early '80s to counter Russian Tu-95 and Tu-142 Bears flying out of Cam Rah Bay in Vietnam, which had the range to hit airbases in northern Australia. The fact that the Australian AF already operated the F-111C was an advantage, from a logistical standpoint as both the F-14A and F-111C used the TF-30 Turbofan. The F-14,in addition to its role as an interceptor also acted as an escort fighter for the long range F-111.Later,in the mid 90's,the decision was taken to rengine both the Tomcat and F-111.The Tomcats would be brought up to "D" standard and have new weapons introduced.Among those weapons were the AIM-120 AMRAAM,AIM-132 ASRAAM,AGM-88 HARM,AGM-154 JSOW,GBU-30 JDAM and AGM-158 JASSM.The AGM-84D/E Harpoon/SLAM was trialed but it was chosen to leave the maritime strike role to the F-111 fleet.

Well, time for work,Tomarrow we'll look at the Israeli F-14I and Saudi F-14S Tomcats.

Great work! I'd like to see a USMC Tomcat and an IIAF F-14D, along with the NORAD Tomcats.

F-14C Tomcat-United States.

The F-14C Tomcat was the model for the Marines, which had more of an air to ground capability then other early Tomcats. The example shown here is in the colors of VMFA-321 Hell's Angels. The F-14C is used in the close air support and fighter bomber roles replacing the F-4 Phantom II.The usual weapons used include the Mk.82 and Mk.84 series GP bombs,CBU-20 Rockeye cluster bombs and AIM-9 and AIM-7 AAMs.The Marines are trained with the AIM-54,but rarely carry it.During the mid 90's,the F-14Cs were upgraded to Attack Tomcat 21 standard. These upgrades included a single piece windscreen,LANTIRN pods fitted into the foreward section of modified Phoenix pallets, and F110-GE-129 turbofan engines which had supercruise ability. The choice of weapons was also upgraded.AGM-88C HARM,AGM-154 JSOW,AGM-158 JASSM,AIM-120 AMRAAM,CBU-89/-98 and GBU-30 JDAM were now able to be carried. The F-14C,along with the A-6F Intruder II,remains the Marines long range stike platforms of choice.

F-14I Tomcat-Israel.
The Israeli AF had been interested in the Tomcat for awhile, and had received some surplus "A" models after the first Gulf war for staying out of the war.The F-14A,while a good fighter/interceptor,left much to be desired in some areas. The Israeli AF,working closely with IAI and Grumman came up with the improved F-14I model, which featured many items from the Attack Tomcat 21 program. The Israel aircraft were duel role fighter bombers. They were also one of the few export Tomcats to be nuclear capable.Israeli Tomcat crews trained regularly for the nuclear strike mission, everything from timed loading/unloading of weapons in the hardened aircraft shelters,to flying simulated strike missions at low level. The weapons used were either the B-61 tactical or B-83 strategic bombs. The example shown here has it's LATIRN/Phoenix pallets removed and 3 Syrian air to air kills. One Mig-25 Foxbat and 2 Mig-29 Fulcrums. The usual air to air weapons used were the AIM-54C Phoenix,AIM-120C AMRAAM and the Python 3.

F-14S Tomcat-Saudi Arabia.

The F-14S was a downgraded model of the US Navy's F-14E Hellcat II,the production model of the Attack Tomcat 21.Among the downgrades were the old AWG-9 radar,in place of the current APG-71.The F-14S is used as a multirole bridge between the F-15 Eagle fighters and Tornado IDS bombers. The F-14S also compliments the F-15S in the strike role. The Saudi AF uses the AIM-54A Phoenix,AIM-7F Sparrow and AIM-9L Sidewinder for their air to air missions, while Mk.82 GP,BL.755 CBUs, and GBU-12 LGBs are used in the air to ground area.

Well, probbley after the weekend is over and I get some time off from work,I'd say maybe a Spanish AF model, maybe a Greek Tomcat in the ghost camo and maybe a USAF Tomcat in European One.I'm going to be going on a week long vacation next friday and I found out today my company is going to send my through firearms training to get me certified to carry a gun,on top of working   ,soI'm going to be taking a little time away from the computer after that.

Whilst I prefer the thought of the Ozzies and Canadians having Tomcats, that Saudi F-14 looks the best.   That'd look beautiful built up wouldn't it.

2 thumbs up.

F-14H Tomcat-Greece

The F-14H was another model of the Advanced Strike Tomcat, made for the Hellenic AF.The F-14H was ordered, along with the F-15H Strike Eagle after the Eurofighter Typhoon got bogged down with technnical delays. The F-14H is an all weather,day/night strike fighter. As well, the Greeks also ordered some of the RF-14E Tomcats to replace the older RF-4E Phantom IIs.Among the weapons carried are the IRIS-T,AIM-120 AMRAAM,AIM-54C Phoenix,AGM-88 HARM,AGM-154 JSOW,AGM-158 JASSM,GBU-24 Paveway III,GBU-38 JDAM,GBU-40 SDB,CBU-87,CBU-98,as well as standard Mk.82 and Mk.84 series bombs. This gives the F-14H one of the most diverse choices of weapons for any Tomcat. The F-14H shown displays 4 Turkish AF kills,2 F-16C Fighting Falcons,an F-4E Phantom II and an RF-4E Phantom II.These were shot down in a clash over the disputed island of Cyprus. It also has a kill for a Turkish MEKO 200 Class Frigate which was sunk after firing on a Greek warship.
