If I remember correctly, the 1/72 Hunter had disappointing sales. In the year or so after the release, every retailer had piles of the things lying around. So it might be a while before they reissue it.

Plus it was only discontinued last year (IIRC). Not likely they'd revive it so soon. A couple more years yet I would think.
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

I don't remember reading that anything was wrong with the kit, no big boo-boos or anything like that.  Which surprises me with the sales reports being not good ---  I've got three of them and I think they're actually pretty good.

It was THE definitive 1/72 Hunter without a doubt. Perhaps it didn't sell well in Germany but then it wouldn't, would it? If that one didn't sell why ever are they re-popping the 1/32 one?

They will eventually repop the 1/72 Hunter. They'd be mad not to. The moulds have been paid for. Not using them would be pouring money down the drain. They're probably just waiting for a time when the market demand for a full-scale repop, which includes ordering a sizeable amount of decals (the most expensive item per kit) and boxes, is there. As pyro said, they were discontinued not too long ago. No point in releasing them again so soon, when they will only sit on the shelves and just occupy space.
I'm fairly sure they sold reasonably well in the UK, but probably not in Germany, their home market. According to their press conference a couple of days ago (LINK - sorry, German only), Revell has a 72% market share in plastic scale modelling here in Germany and a 40% market share in the UK (behind Airfix, of course, but I still wouldn't have imagined that big a market share). Now, doing a bit of number crunching and assuming the UK and Germany have an equal amount a scale modellers per 1,000 people, it follows that the German market is a little more than twice as big as the UK market to Revell. Factor in that a Hunter should have much more appeal to UK modellers than to German modellers (don't look at me, I bought a dozen of 'em) and it's quite possible that even decent sales in the UK would leave Revell disappointed with overall sales.

The 1/32 Hunter was discontinued a couple of years before the 1/72 kit was. Adding to that, 1/32 seems to be the hot stuff at the moment. At the press conference, Revell also said their three hottest sellers this year were the 1/24 VW T1 "Samba" bus, the "Star Trek: Into Darkness" NCC 1701 Enterprise and the 1/32 Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6. Apparently, the market really does need that many 109s.  :o

One nice thing to come out of that press conference is that while Revell's RC line grew by 44% and the scale modelling market more or less stagnated, they said they won't throttle back their scale modelling line.
Cheers,
Moritz

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

Ya not much on either list is turning my crank right now....but the 222 might be interesting ( especially sat atop a shelf next to a Sunderland )

I would go for a few more Hunters tho. I had 1, and that was all I could find in Canada !

the Orange lion F-16 looks like a nice addition to the collection.
but i do wish they would release something new and apealing rather then repops of earlier kits.

would be nice if they put in effort in a new tool 1/72 Rafale-B/C or Mirage III, 5 or 2000.
or even re-release some of the 1/144 helicopters such as the Chinooks, NH90 and Hinds.
even the re-release of the 1/144 Hawker Hunter is more then welcome.
they invested so much money in these new moulds and they are just sitting there gathering dust.

and for 2015, please, no more F-16 repops

Having recently built their old Mirage III kit, which was released back in what, the 1970s, they could do quite well if they re-released that.  I was rather pleased with it.  Lovely model, even with the raised panel lines and the addition of a complete Atar 9C engine was nice (which will make an appearance later in some other whiff).  The only thing I replaced on it was the seat with an Aeroclub one.

As for the 1/72 Hunter - they are becoming relatively rare to find on EvilBay (my main avenue of purchase) at reasonable prices.  I was surprised at how fast they disappeared after they ceased production.  I've still got one and a half in my stash but I'd definitely like some more for various projects I have planned. They are far and away the nicest of the Hunter kits around (Airfix, Frog/Novo/etc).

I have 2 of the 72nd scale kits here in the US.  One will probably donate its fuselage for my Hawker Henneway project.  The other will be Jordanian, 1967.  Wouldn't mind a few more as I found out one of my Uncles used to put the dogtooth wing on them in the field.

I could go for some more 144th scale choppers as well Nils. Their small scale stuff is beautiful. And the BAC Lightning in that scale as well !

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Let joy be unconfined!  ;D

I liked the look of the assembled one at Telford but the Revell guys there turned all inscrutable when I asked when it would be out and what the price would be. I'm pleasantly surprised on both counts.

I think I'll build the UK's very own equivalent out of 2 BAe 146s and a Mirage III.
