Tempted to get a Heyford and whiff it as a monoplane, adapt the undercarriage so it's more trousered than spatted, thicken the wings and enclose the cockpit.  Thought about adding turrets but I think armaoured glass windshields might be in order.
Chopped about a scale drawing to get an idea of what it might look like - very much like a Fairey Hendon, which I guess shouldn't be a surprise gien the Hendon and the Heyford werre built to the same spec.
Probably a 2009 project.   ;D ;D

Mariner for me too - i'm certain that there's belly swapping potential there to make a heavy bomber into a flying boat, and make the mariner into a bomber....

Liberator maybe?  Might need a wing crank though....

....and to leave in or take out the crank in the mariner's wing.

Decisions, decisions!

I'd probably pick up the Twin Otter and do it non wiff for nostalgic reasons.

When I was growing up the Canadian Forces' Twin Otter fleet was based at CFB Edmonton and those yellow Twotters were very common over the city, I could recognize them by sound.

As it was also one of the very first military aircraft I ever got a flight in, I've always had a bit of a soft spot for it.

Had almost identical thoughts at the SIG meet on Saturday  :o

However mine will be OB but RAF East Africa circa 1940 in a mixed squadron for the Ethiopian/Somaliland campaigns

This may be of interest,  Heyford II prototype with cockpit enclosure and gunner's decking.

Nose turrets were considered, a General Aircraft turret designed by H. J. Stieger was tested on K3489 and a Trojan Ltd. design by Bert Hubbard tested on K3503. Unfortunately, I don't have any pics.

Would look good next to a Wellesley (thinks - why have RoG re-released the Mariner and not the Matchbox Wellesley?) and a Gauntlet. ;D ;D

Fantastic photo.  Not how I envisaged my Heyford going but I think you can see the beginnings of some of the characteristics of the Hampden in the picture.  Thanks for posting it.   ;D ;D

The 'Twotter' is up for review on Modellversium.  Looks to be a similar release to the original re: decal options.

Mav that's the whole point - they are trying to re-issue them as close to the origional as possible, whence the "Classics" name. Although the boxing is perhaps "better" then the origional and Revell's current dreaded end opening boxes

G'day Chris,

I wasn't aware that they were trying for 'exact' production, I merely thought they were re-releasing old moulds.

I'm happy that the decals are Revell Germany creations as the original Matchbox stuff was a bit ordinary.

Either way, at least they're not trotting out old kits with different decals and calling them 'new releases' like one Japanese company.

In a way Mav they are being slightly more honest then some we could name with re-issues, but the use of the word Classic does enable a price increase, as noted by our very own Wookster. It puts them in a slightly different marketing niche.

The markings supplied whilst the same are infinately better quality however, plus gives some people a chance to get some of these kits - just hope they bring out more of the Matchbox bi-planes

The 'Classics' is, as you say, marketing for good or bad, but I'm happy to see some of those noted are being made available again.  There are some real gems in amongst the Matchbox stable that I'd love to see reissued.

I haven't noted prices here in Aus as my LHS isn't that well stocked and I doubt they've even heard of the 'Classics' range as yet.  I'm sure the captial cities might have them but in the past I've noted Revell kits to being either fabulously cheap or blatantly overpriced, often for similar releases.

John

I'm still waiting to see their re-release of the 1/72 Sopwith Triplane. It was supposed to come out in February.
